Use this word counter for essays, articles, social posts, speeches, newsletters, product copy, metadata, and any text with a length target. It counts text locally in your browser, so pasted drafts are not uploaded.
The tool counts word-like tokens made from letters or numbers, including contractions and hyphenated terms. Reading time divides the word count by the selected words-per-minute speed. Keyword frequency lowercases words, removes common stop words, and shows each remaining word's share of the total word count.
A word count is produced by a tokenization rule, not by a universal definition of a word. Hyphenated terms, contractions, numbers, URLs, emoji, and languages without spaces can be counted differently by editors and publishing systems. Use the required platform's count for a hard legal, academic, or submission limit.
Character limits may include spaces, punctuation, or line breaks, and some systems count encoded units rather than user-perceived characters. A composed accented letter and a visually identical sequence can have different underlying code points. Paste a representative final version into the destination when one extra character can cause rejection.
Sentence counts are estimates because periods also appear in abbreviations, initials, decimals, domains, and quotations. Paragraph counts depend on line-break conventions and blank lines. Use the figures to understand shape and pace, then read the text. A short sentence can still be difficult, and a long sentence can be clear when well structured.
Reading time is a planning estimate based on an assumed speed. Technical prose, unfamiliar names, equations, code, tables, and second-language reading can be much slower. A practiced speaker may also pause for slides, demonstrations, laughter, questions, or interpretation. Rehearse timed material aloud rather than editing only to the displayed estimate.
Keyword frequency is most useful for catching accidental repetition. It does not tell whether a page answers the reader's question, uses a term accurately, or deserves to rank in search. Replace awkward repetition with precise language, but do not force synonyms where a technical term should remain consistent.
Review words in context. A frequent name may be appropriate in a legal document, while a repeated transition can make a short article feel mechanical. Sort the frequency list, then search each candidate in the text. Keep necessary repetition and revise only the instances that weaken clarity.
The text is analyzed in the browser for this workflow, which avoids an ordinary document upload. Still, do not paste passwords, private keys, unreleased financial results, health records, legal advice, student records, or customer data when a harmless sample will answer the question. Clipboard tools, extensions, shared devices, and saved drafts can create separate exposure.
Before publishing, use the count requested by the destination, then perform a human edit for structure, accuracy, tone, and accessibility. Check headings, lists, link text, alternative text, quotations, citations, and calls to action. A document can hit the perfect length and still omit the information its reader needs.
